Requirements summary

Assist surgeons and the surgical team with case management and patient care
Participate in patient assessments, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures
Obtain and process laboratory samples including blood, urine, free fluid, and fine needle aspirates
Execute, monitor, and recover sedation and anesthesia events
Function as both a circulating nurse and scrub technician during orthopedic and soft tissue procedures
Monitor patients throughout hospitalization while providing exceptional nursing care and patient advocacy
Assist with inventory management, surgical ordering, and department organization
Collaborate with specialists, technicians, and support staff to deliver outstanding patient outcomes
Support a positive, team-oriented hospital culture
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Veterinary Technology program
Registered, Certified, or Licensed Veterinary Technician (RVT/CVT/LVT), or eligible for registration in Nova Scotia
Successful completion of the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE)
Licensed or eligible for licensure with the Eastern Veterinary Technicians Association (EVTA) and Nova Scotia Veterinary Medical Association (NSVMA)
Previous surgery experience preferred; candidates with strong general practice experience and a desire to transition into specialty surgery are encouraged to apply
Strong anesthesia monitoring skills and understanding of anesthetic protocols
Knowledge of drug calculations, dosage administration, and radiographic techniques preferred
Excellent communication, organizational, and patient advocacy skills
Positive attitude with a collaborative, team-first approach
Fluent English speaking and reading skills required
