The Registered Nurse provides immediate post-operative recovery care, including advanced pain and airway management for patients recovering from various types of anesthesia. Responsibilities include assessing patient needs, developing care plans, and managing ventilated patients using computerized documentation systems.
Candidates must be registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario and hold BCLS, Critical Care, or Emergency Department certifications. A minimum of one year of Critical Care/Emergency experience and two years of acute surgical experience are required.
The Registered Nurse in the PACU functions within the full scope of his/her nursing practice to assess the care needs of his/her patient and to develop a plan of care based on the assessment. The RN collaborates with the Resource Nurse as well as other members of the care team to evaluate the effectiveness of the care plan: Provide care of patients in the immediate recovery phase post-operatively. Provides advanced pain and airway management based on patients’ individual needs. Care of ventilated patients. Care of patients recovering from general, local and regional anesthesia. Utilization of computerized systems for documentation of patient care.
Current Registered Nurse registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario BCLS certification upon hire to show proof of valid current certification (Registered Nurses currently employed by HRH are exempted) PACU certification (or to obtain within 6 months of hire date) required Current Critical Care Certification or Emergency Department Certification required At least 1 year current Critical Care or Emergency nursing experience (including physiological and cardiac monitoring of patients) required At least 2 years of current acute surgical experience is required Problem solving abilities and critical thinking skills Excellent organizational skills and flexibility Ability to function as part of a team in a rapidly changing environment Demonstrated commitment to professional development and a strong knowledge of policy and practice standards Excellent communication skills Ideal candidate is utilizes a patient and family centred approach to care in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment and should be ready to drive change and innovation. Excellent attendance and discipline free record required Minimum 2 years recent PACU experience preferred PALS and ACLS certification preferred Experience with arterial and central lines, epidurals and spinal anesthetics, PCA preferred Experience working with the paediatric population preferred Excellent attendance and discipline free record required An understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles as they relate to health practices is an asset.
