The Personal Support Worker is responsible for supporting total resident care according to a Resident Care Plan, ensuring residents' optimal functioning and well-being. This includes planning, coordinating, and implementing nursing and personal care activities in a long-term care facility.
Candidates must complete a Personal Support Worker certificate program that includes at least 600 hours of combined class and practical experience. Knowledge of resident care practices, infection control, and health and safety legislation is also required.
Clinical Practicum hours within the Personal Support Worker program consist of a minimum of one hundred and forty (140) hours, as practical experience, preferably with clinic experience in a geriatric or long term care setting.
Combined class and practical experience must be 600 hours in duration.
