The Registered Practical Nurse is responsible for planning, coordinating, developing, managing, and implementing nursing and personal care activities for residents in a municipal long-term care facility. This involves providing direct nursing and personal care in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team, with a strong focus on resident safety and engagement.
Candidates must have completed a 2-year Registered Practical Nurse diploma from a community college and possess a minimum of six months of related experience, preferably in geriatrics or long-term care. Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario and knowledge of relevant legislation, infection control, and documentation standards are mandatory.
In collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team, you provide nursing and personal care to residents, with an emphasis on resident safety and engagement. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Completion of 2 year community college Registered Practical Nurse diploma
Minimum of 6 months of related experience, preferably in a geriatric-gerontology or long-term care setting CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) current with College of Nurses of OntarioKNOWLEDGE Basic knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations such as: Regulated Health Professions Act, Health Care Consent Act, Nursing Act, Mental Health Act, Professional Misconduct and Controlled Act, professional standards, Code of Ethics, practice expectations Infection control guidelines Medication administration standards Nursing documentation standards Principles of verbal and non-verbal communication Transfer and positioning techniques for persons requiring long term care General knowledge of computer software applications including word processing and mail applications (e.g.: Word, Outlook) Must possess the training, experience and knowledge to organize the work and its performance Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.
