Quick overview

  • Support assessment and short-term stabilization of urgent mental health problems.
  • Apply knowledge of psychiatric disorders and relevant mental health tools/tests in clinical practice

Requirements summary

  • Current Certificate of Competence issued by the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention required.
  • Current CPR required.
  • Certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing preferred.
  • Physical assessment certificate is an asset.
  • Post diploma courses in Child/Youth Mental Health Nursing are an asset.
  • Knowledge in Brief Solution Focus Therapy is an asset.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in an acute care inpatient child/youth mental health setting preferred.

  • Job Title Registered Nurse Program & Department Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre -> Mental Health & Addictions -> Mental Health Youth Inpatient Regular / Temporary Temporary Full / Part Time Part-Time Temporary End Date (Anticipated) 30 September 2026 Union ONA Requisition Close Date 24 June 2026 FTE .50 Salary Plan / Job Grade $41.15 - $58.98 ( ON_02 ) Job Posting Reason Current Vacancy Job Summary & Requirements Registered Nurses (RN) working in the Child and Youth Program at RVH support the Child and Youth Mental Health Inpatient Unit. The Inpatient unit is an 8-bed regional program supporting children and youth under the age of 18 from the Central Region who are experiencing acute mental health crisis. This program serves children and adolescents requiring admission for assessment and short-term stabilization of urgent mental health problems. In alignment with RVH core value of Working Together cross coverage within the Mental Health and Addictions Programs and across RVH is an expectation to support organizational Human Resource needs as they arise. The RN is a professional caregiver who is responsible and accountable for providing quality patient care within a delivery model in accordance with RVH Values, policies and standards of care, the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) standards of care, and all relevant legislation. As a qualified candidate you will have the following job requirements: Education:
  • A current Certificate of Competence issued by the College of Nurses of Ontario is required.
  • Certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing is preferred.
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention is required.
  • Current CPR is required.
  • Physical assessment certificate an asset.
  • Post diploma courses in Child/Youth Mental Health Nursing an asset.
  • Knowledge in Brief Solution Focus Therapy an asset Experience:
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in an acute care inpatient child/youth mental health setting preferred.

Competencies

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of the major psychiatric disorders as identified in the DSM IV.

  • Systems theory as it relates to family dynamics.
