• The theory and practice of dental hygiene
• Socially funded Dental Programs (Ontario Works,Healthy Smiles Ontario, Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program, Canadian Dental Care Plan, Ontario Disability Support Program, and other socially funded dental programs)
• Legislative requirements for collection, protection and storage of client records
• Dental software such as Abeldent and Dexis
• Computer software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint..etc.)
• Medical emergency procedures as outlined by CDHO
• Interpersonal skill to interact with clients, families, community partners, peers, superiors with tact and professionalism
• Principles of prevention of oral health diseases and link to overall health
• Principles of healthy nutrition
• Effective counselling, teaching, motivational and coaching techniques
• Principles of infection prevention and control requirements
• Public health concepts including: health status of populations; inequities in health; social determinants of health and illness
• Principles of diversity and inclusiveness affecting dental care service
• Concepts of client centered, trauma informed and culturally sensitive dental care and services

• Perform the legislated duties of a dental hygienist with an acceptable degree of quantity and quality in a safe and effective manner

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW • Language Requirement

• Designated Bilingual – specific level of language proficiency:
• French: oral, reading, writing
• English: oral, reading, writing Candidates who do not meet language requirements will be required to participate in training.

• Requirement: A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated; This position requires the successful candidate to use their own transportation.
