About the Role

The Overdose Prevention Worker will be part of a team of two to provide Outreach Services in Kelowna and West Kelowna. The successful candidate will carry a backpack of harm reduction materials, seasonal clothing, first aid supplies and at times food donations. Non-judgmental support and referrals for food, housing, healthcare, addictions, pregnancy, legal issues and employment will be provided to those who ask.

Position

Temporary Full-Time 32 hours per week until return of incumbent.

Compensation

  • $24.94-29.06 per hour plus applicable shift premiums.
  • Evening shift premium – additional $3.50 per hour between 1900hr-0700hr
  • Weekend shift premium – additional $2.50 per hour between 2400hr (midnight) Friday – 2400hr (midnight) Sunday
  • A $30.00 Street Outreach per diem for each worked shift that is four or more hours in length
  • Indirect Compensation
  • Extended Health and Dental benefits after the 3-month probationary period
  • 3 weeks vacation pay which increases with length of service
  • 1 paid wellness day per year
  • Paid Birthday Off
  • Paid sick time which increases with length of service.

Qualifications

  • Education and experience
  • Minimum diploma in Community Social Services
  • Recent, related experience of two years or
  • Equivalent combination of education, training and experience or
  • Other qualifications determined to be reasonable and relevant to the level of work.
  • Job skills and abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Physically able to carry out the duties of the position
  • Ability to work in collaboration with others
  • Ability to organize and prioritize
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients
  • Ability to observe and recognize changes in clients
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Ability to handle conflict
  • Ability to utilize own vehicle with mileage compensation if required

  • Criminal Record Search in accordance with agency policy
  • Employees must declare their vaccination status for COVID-19 and influenza; if vaccinated, documentation must be provided.
  • Valid BC driver’s license and use of a reliable vehicle
