Community Living Sarnia-Lambton (CLSL) is a charitable, not-for-profit, unionized organization dedicated to enriching the lives of people who have an intellectual disability. CLSL currently provides support and services to more than 300 individuals and their families, promoting individual choice, inclusion, independence, and personal achievement.

Position Summary

CLSL is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Individual Support Employee (ISE) - Employer Directed to provide one-on-one support for an individual with a dual diagnosis, including developmental disabilities and mental health challenges. Working closely with the individual, their family, and the Activity Centre Supervisor, the successful candidate will help create meaningful opportunities that support personal goals, independence, community participation, and overall well-being. The Individual Support Employer Directed will assist with daily routines, community outings, skill development, behavioural support strategies, and participation in CLSL Day Program activities while fostering a safe, respectful, and person-centred environment.

  • Key Responsibilities Provide individualized one-on-one support based on the person's goals, interests, and support needs.
  • Support participation in CLSL Day Programs, community activities, recreational opportunities, and life skill development.
  • Implement person-centred support plans and behavioural support strategies.
  • Promote independence, social inclusion, self-advocacy, and community engagement.
  • Support positive mental health and emotional well-being through respectful and supportive interactions.
  • Use sound judgement and de-escalation techniques when responding to challenging situations.
  • Assist with transportation to community activities and appointments as required.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, progress notes, and communication records.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, family members, and other professionals to ensure consistent and effective supports.
  • Follow CLSL policies, procedures, health and safety requirements, and confidentiality standards.
  • Schedule This is a Part-Time Employer Directed position subject to the provisions of the Collective Agreement and the support needs of the individual served.
  • Hours are primarily scheduled during weekdays and are based on the needs, goals, and availability of the individual receiving support, as well as operational requirements.
  • Flexibility may be required from time to time.
  • Additional casual day program hours may be available by mutual agreement and organizational need.
  • Currently CLSL is looking to cover approximately 18 to 20 hours per week, please note that hours may vary and are not guaranteed.

Qualifications

Education in Developmental Services, Human Services, PSW, Social Services, or related field preferred. Previous experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health challenges, dual diagnosis, autism, or behavioural needs. Strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills. Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations. Experience using positive behaviour supports, crisis intervention, and de-escalation techniques is considered an asset. Ability to work independently while maintaining effective communication with supervisors and team members. Experience Previous experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, dual diagnosis, mental health challenges, autism, or behavioural needs. Experience implementing behavioural support strategies and positive behaviour supports is considered an asset. Experience working independently and within a team environment.

Requirements

Valid Ontario G or G2 Driver's Licence. Reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance. Ability to transport individuals when required. Current Standard First Aid and CPR Certification. Safe Management Certification Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.

  • Individualized Funding Support Services Individual Support Employees (ISEs) Employer Directed provide support services to individuals who, either independently or through their families, have requested Community Living Sarnia-Lambton to provide support through individualized funding arrangements.
  • This may include, but is not limited to, supports funded through Passport funding, Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities (ACSD), and other individualized funding programs.
  • Individual Support Employees may be scheduled to provide support on an "as-needed" or short-term basis for one or more hours at a time, depending on the needs of the individual and the availability of funding.
  • Assignments may occur over varying periods of time as determined by Community Living Sarnia-Lambton.
  • Work schedules are established by the Employer, with consideration given to the needs and preferences of the individual support and their family whenever possible.
  • This position does not guarantee a minimum number of hours.
  • Hours of work are dependent upon the support requirements of the individual, funding availability, and operational needs.
  • Employees working in an Individual Support Employer Directed role will continue to be classified as Individual Support Employees regardless of the number of hours worked.
