Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. This position represents a regular full time training opportunity (theory and practicum) to prepare staff to work in the specified Island Health specialty department. Upon completion of the training the staff member will be placed into a regular full time rotation line in the specialty department that they have been trained for. (Please note: There is an 18 month return of service requirement as a regular/permanent employee within the Island Health specialty department for which they have been trained.

Under the direction of the Manager, Clinical Coordinator or designate and as a member of a multidisciplinary team, performs assessments, plans and provides personal care, and performs nursing procedures. Performs a variety of orthopaedic technician functions such as applying and removing casts and splints and setting up, monitoring, and adjusting traction equipment as directed by the physician. The Orthopaedic LPN operates in accordance with the competency guidelines and full scope of practice within the Standards of Practice as outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, and according to agency operating policies and standards and unit specific protocols.
