About Radius Community Health & Healing (formerly Boyle McCauley Health Centre)
Radius Community Health & Healing provides interdisciplinary, team based, integrated, comprehensive, and person-centered primary health care for vulnerable Edmontonians with complex needs. Through primary care and health promotion, Radius Community Health & Healing improves the quality of life and well-being of populations and individuals who face multiple barriers to accessing health services. Radius achieves this by providing the highest standard of evidence-informed and client focused inter-professional care. We collaborate with our clients to address the broad determinants of health.
Within Radius Community Health & Healing, the SCS (Supervised Consumption Service) is part of a range of evidence-based services that support prevention, harm reduction and treatment for Albertans living with substance use. SCS provides a place where people can use drugs in a monitored, hygienic environment to reduce harm from substance use while offering wrap-around services such as counselling, social work and referrals to housing and treatment (e.g., opioid-dependency treatment, detox) and works collaboratively with the rest of Radius to provide individualized services to meet service user's needs.
Position: Casual
Radius Licensed Practical Nurses are a vital component of the Team Based care at Radius. Clinical teams of nurses, physicians, nurse practitioners, medical office assistants, outreach workers, health advocates, mental health therapists, and other professionals offer comprehensive, wrap-around care to Edmonton’s most marginalized population. Nursing staff are required to work to full-scope of practice within a primary health care setting to serve all aspects of client needs. LPNs are leaders and independent practitioners at Radius, working collaboratively to ensure high quality care, continuity of health services, and all possible social and medical supports for clients.
Within the SCS, the LPN will provide direct client care to program participants accessing the consumption site. Emphasis will be placed on forming relationships with clients, establishing rapport, supervising and monitoring substance use, and assisting and treating potential signs of overdose as clinically indicated. The SCS LPN will also be responsible for medical interventions within SCS – primarily the reversal of drug poisonings, but also incidental medical concerns that are brought up by SCS clientele. SCS staff will also facilitate the connection of clients between the SCS and all programs at Radius, with the goal of allowing the client to move along the spectrum of care towards recovery.
