Your Role Victim Service Workers support individuals and families who have been impacted by crime. We help people navigate the criminal legal system, understand their rights as victims within it, and provide advocacy, short-term counselling, information, safety planning, and help accessing community supports and services. We help people apply for protective orders, and may help them navigate times of emergency and crisis. We strive to work in a compassionate, client-centered, and culturally responsive way. We recognize the ongoing impacts of colonization and systemic inequities experienced by Indigenous Peoples and the resulting over-representation of Indigenous people in the criminal legal system, and are committed to providing culturally responsive support. Victim Service Workers interacts regularly with other players in the in the criminal legal system, including RCMP, Public Prosecution Services of Canada, Yukon Community Corrections, Justice Wellness Centre and Youth Probation. This position works in Dawson City, and travels periodically to other Yukon communities to provide Victim Services support.
