The role involves working independently in the community to deliver health promotion, early intervention, and integrated care with addiction programs.
Requires a nursing degree (Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing or equivalent) and at least 2 years of recent experience in acute or community psychiatry. Candidates must hold a Basic Life Support certificate, a valid Class 5 driver's license, and registration with the CRPNS or CRNS.

The Community Mental Health Nurse (CMHN), reporting to the Manager of Mental Health & Addiction Services, is an essential element in a comprehensive Mental Health Service. The CMHN has extensive knowledge of the evidence based principles and practices of Community Health Nursing. A large portion of the CMHN's work is based outside of the clinic working independently. Each skilled CMHN is expected to monitor and administer medication, assess clinical status, provide case management, develop behavioral treatment programs, provide coverage for other recovery services team members, provide counselling and education and provide various forms of psychotherapy, including individual, family and group therapy. A CMHN provides health promotion, education and early intervention/prevention to the communities they work in. This position works in an integrated manner with other mental health and addiction programs.
