Mental Health & Addiction Support Worker

Responsibilities

• Provide empathetic, client-centered support to individuals dealing with mental health and addiction issues in various settings, including community outreach and residential programs.
• Assist clients in developing coping strategies, life skills, and relapse prevention plans to support sustained recovery.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals, social workers, and counselors to coordinate care and ensure comprehensive service delivery.
• Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of client interactions, progress, and any incidents in compliance with organizational policies and legal requirements.
• Facilitate access to community resources, support groups, and treatment programs, advocating on behalf of clients as needed.

• The role requires strong interpersonal and communication skills to build trust and rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds.
• Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are essential for assessing client needs and adapting support strategies accordingly.
• Organizational skills are used daily to manage client schedules, document client progress, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams effectively.
• Knowledge of mental health and addiction frameworks enables the Support Worker to apply evidence-based practices and advocate for client-centered care.
• Additionally, cultural competence and empathy are vital in delivering respectful and inclusive support that acknowledges each client's unique experiences and challenges.
