POSITION SUMMARY The Physician Assistant (PA) at CHEO works alongside the physician on inpatient mental health and in a mental health outpatient aftercare clinic to provide care to the patients requiring these services. The PA integrates the skills and knowledge from a medical model of practice. The PA functions both autonomously and in collaboration with physicians and other health care providers to manage patient care in a comprehensive manner. Working closely with the Interdisciplinary team, the physician assistant will participate in the management of patients admitted to inpatient mental health during their admission and/or for a time limited period after discharge and will be involved in medication/treatment management and focused risk assessment. QUALIFICATIONS Vulnerable Sector Check (Essential) Graduate of a recognized Physician Assistant Program (Essential) Previous experience in related field (Essential) Current appropriate level of life-support training (e.g., BCLS) (Essential) Experience or willingness to learn about mental health (Essential) Ability to function collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team and practice in a self-directed manner (Essential) Demonstrated excellent leadership and organizational skills (Essential) - Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing - Ability to participate as a member of interdisciplinary team - Demonstrates creativity, innovation, flexibility and initiative - Sound conflict resolution skills and problem-solvingabilities Sound crisis management skills (Essential) Physical ability to perform the duties of the job (Essential) Bilingualism (English and French) (Preferred) *Please note you will be represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU). Please note that this position will be based out of Ottawa. Please note that location may be subject to change at any time at the discretion of the employer. All OPSEU members shall be granted an interview upon passing the pre-screening. Pre-screening might include testing. Effective March 29, 2021, CHEO will conduct a more comprehensive pre-screening and evaluation process. This process may include more varied and multidimensional testing such as a written test, practical exam, or other assessment.
