  • Summary of
  • Duties: Reporting to the Transition House Supervisor, the Transition House Support Worker is responsible to provide crisis intervention and emergency shelter services for First Nation community members.

  • Expectations: · Maintain general upkeep of the building and cleaning. · Assisting residents with services within the self-contained Transition Home (ex. kitchen, laundry, assisting clients with caring their personal belongings into their room, unloading food delivery into the transition home, etc) · Refer clients to other social services or assist them in locating and utilizing community resources including legal, medical, and financial assistance, housing, employment, transportation, daycare, schooling, counseling, etc. · Meet with clients to assess their progress, give support and discuss any difficulties or problems · Tracking clients' behavioural changes and responses to interventions through daily charting · Maintain contact with other social service agencies and health care providers involved with clients to provide information and obtain feedback on clients' overall progress · Transportation to and from appointments within and outside of the community · Assist with the intake process and reports for new residents · Participate in the development and implementation of safety plans · Perform other related duties as requested.
  • Experience and
  • Attributes: · Completion of a college or university program in Social Work, Child & Youth Care, Psychology or other social science or health-related discipline is an asset · Previous work experience in a social service environment as a volunteer or in a support capacity may replace formal education requirements · Ability to deal effectively with conflict situations, mediate, manage aggressive behaviour, and use non-violent crisis intervention and behavioural management techniques · Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in the English language · Ability to work independently and as an integral member of various teams. · Strong organizational & multi-tasking skills, meticulous attention to detail, and time management skills · Must have knowledge of Lil’wat Nation and surrounding First Nations communities and their respective culture and protocols. · Knowledge of systemic issues that may affect families facing domestic violence issues (ex. Lateral violence, trauma-informed lens, etc.) · Experience with Microsoft Office programs an asset · Current First Aid, Food Safe, and WHMIS an asset · Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, that allows for day, evening & overnight work (shift premium of $3/hr for overnight shift. · Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position, including lifting up to 25lbs. · Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check · Must possess a Valid Class 5 Driver’s license and have a clean Driver’s Abstract
