The Restorative Care Aide implements physical restorative services for residents, including ADLs, mobility, and exercise programs. They also monitor and educate PSWs on restorative techniques and participate in interdisciplinary care planning.
Requirements summary

The Restorative Care Aide reports to the Director of Care and and works under the supervision and directions of the Nursing Restorative Lead. They implement restorative services that meet the physical needs of the residents including: ADLs, bed mobility, transfers, toileting, walking, etc according to their plan of care. They monitor PSWs’ techniques and practices when nursing restorative care is being provided. They educates PSWs on Nursing Restorative Philosophy and techniques, and acts as a resource for PSWs.
Wage Rate
The starting wage rate is $24.532/hour.

Responsibilities
Complete initial assessments for ambulation, ROM, exercise and equipment needs (i.e. ambulatory and assistive devices), ensuring accurate records as required, including participation tracking, monthly statistics, Intake documentation, Quarterly documentation, MDS/RAPS, and Care plan updates
Demonstrates commitment to resident safety by providing high-quality care in accordance with the organization's vision and mission.
Provide programs that meet the physical needs of the residents, including: walking, ROM exercises, small-medium group exercises, etc.)
Process and monitor all referrals and modify programs when necessary to ensure individual needs are met.
Audit and evaluate the restorative care program to residents assessed as requiring this program.
Participates in resident care conference/team meetings and provides information to aid in the development of care plans.
Assist with the evaluation of therapies provided in collaboration with the Physiotherapist and/or Occupational Therapist.
Work closely with Recreation Manager and interdisciplinary team to establish nursing restorative services for residents in consultation interdisciplinary team, update care plans, evaluate and document accordingly.

Order assistive devices as appropriate and is responsible for providing appropriate ongoing maintenance and cleaning (i.e. wheelchairs, walkers, saska poles, versa frames, sit to stand, Med Up Bike).
Participate in department meetings, unit meetings, care plan rounds, interdisciplinary care conferences and pre-admission care conferences as required.
Ensure effective communication and good human relations with residents, residents’ families, volunteers, and team members of other departments.
Required to understand the nature and meaning of quality indicators used by the Home.
Participate and conduct audits according to the schedule in the Quality Improvement Program.
Focus on a person-centred approach whilst maintaining the organization’s policies and procedures.
Use of Gentle persuasive approach (GPA) when dealing with and managing residents with expressive behaviours
Must have knowledge of and adhere to practices of safe transfers; safe use of ceiling and other mechanical lifts in accordance with the policies of the Home.
Monitor PSWs’ techniques and practices when nursing restorative care is being provided.
Educates PSWs on Nursing Restorative Philosophy and techniques, and acts as a resource for PSWs.
Share relevant nursing restorative information to team members to assist them in their daily responsibilities.
Any and all other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
The qualifications needed to join our family are as follows
Must have PSW Certification and a minimum of RCET Restorative Care Education Training.
Additional courses may include a post-secondary diploma or degree in kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university, and at least one year of experience in a health care setting.
