About the Role
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, or designate, the Caseworker will assist in case management and connecting with participants in the community.
What you'll do Caseworker duties include the following responsibilities
Ensure program participants understand and follow program guidelines and expectations. Provide life skills development. Provide intensive case management – one on one case manager to participant relationship using a client centred approach. Connect participants to community supports. Provide stabilization and crisis support. Provide incidental problem solving and emotional support during crisis situations. Provide accurate written documentation. Role model positive behaviour and encourage and assist participants to practice self-help and non-violent problem-solving skills. Perform all other duties as assigned/needed. Maintain confidentiality.
Knowledge, Skills and Assets
Working knowledge of the Mission, Vision and Values of the John Howard Society of Saskatchewan. Working knowledge of the characteristics of disadvantaged persons. Working knowledge of Restorative Justice and Harm Reduction practices. Understanding and commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action. Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills. Exceptional writing and case management skills. Strong verbal skills and the ability to communicate professionally. Resourceful, flexible, and well organized. Professional, responsive, and a positive work attitude. Ability to make sound, timely, and accurate judgment while navigating crisis. Ability to work independently. Must maintain a positive relationship with clients, other staff, businesses, and government agencies. Demonstrate empathy for those impacted by the Criminal Justice System.
- Other Requirements The successful candidate must be able to meet the physical demands of working in a residential home environment while providing quality support to youth.
- This position requires the ability to safely lift and carry laundry, groceries, household items, and other materials as part of daily responsibilities.
- The role involves a combination of sitting, standing, walking, and driving throughout the workday, with regular movement between tasks and client support activities.
- Candidates must be comfortable climbing stairs, performing general housekeeping duties, making beds, accessing storage areas, and completing seasonal outdoor tasks such as yard maintenance and snow removal.
- The position also requires the ability to push, pull, bend, crouch, and perform other physical movements necessary to maintain a safe, clean, and supportive home environment.
- Successful candidates will possess the physical stamina, mobility, and flexibility to safely perform the essential duties of the position while meeting the daily needs of the youth they support.
Qualifications
Education: Secondary education from Saskatchewan Polytechnic or Community Colleges or University Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and/or minimum 1 year of practical experience working with individuals impacted by socio-economic issues including homelessness, trauma, addiction, mental health, poverty, and the child welfare Practical Experience: Working knowledge and experience with individuals impacted by socio-economic issues, including: homelessness, trauma, addiction, mental health, poverty, and the child welfare system. Working with a range of diverse clients, indiscriminate of: age, gender, sexual orientation, abilities, socio-economic status, religious preference, etc.
Other
First Aid/CPR, ASIST, Non-violent Crisis Intervention, Food Safe would be considered an asset. Valid / Insurable Saskatchewan Driver’s License, insurable to drive clients in JHSS-owned vehicles. Cleared Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check, completed three (3) months prior to start date.
Capability
Computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) Requires flexibility and should be able to work varying shifts
