The Caseworker provides intensive case management and life skills development to participants using a trauma-informed and harm-reduction approach. They are responsible for connecting clients to community resources, maintaining documentation, and ensuring a safe, supportive residential environment.
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, or designate, the Caseworker will assist in case management and connecting with participants in the community.
Facilitate life skills development for participants Provide intensive case management using a participant centred approach that is risk reductive and supportive at the participant level Connect participants to community supports. Provide clients with support and including connecting them to community resources for long-term housing support Support clients with multi-faceted housing supports including move in/out support, finding housing, completing rental application. Provide stabilization and crisis support to participants. Support participants using a trauma informed and restorative justice lens. Build/Maintain positive working relationships with landlords and other agencies. Complete and maintain documentation to program standards including HIFIS. Role model positive behaviour and encourage and assist participants to practice self-help and non-violent problem-solving skills. Maintain confidentiality Perform all other duties as assigned/needed.
Working knowledge of the Mission, Vision and Values of the John Howard Society of Saskatchewan. Working knowledge of the characteristics of disadvantaged persons. Working knowledge of Restorative Justice and Harm Reduction practices. Understanding and commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action. Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills. Exceptional writing and case management skills. Strong verbal skills and the ability to communicate professionally. Resourceful, flexible, and well organized. Professional, responsive, and a positive work attitude. Ability to make sound, timely, and accurate judgment while navigating crisis. Ability to work independently. Must maintain a positive relationship with clients, other staff, businesses, and government agencies. Demonstrate empathy for those impacted by the Criminal Justice System.
Education: Secondary education from Saskatchewan Polytechnic or Community Colleges or University Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and/or minimum 1 year of practical experience working with individuals impacted by socio-economic issues including homelessness, trauma, addiction, mental health, poverty, and the child welfare Practical Experience: Working knowledge and experience with individuals impacted by socio-economic issues, including: homelessness, trauma, addiction, mental health, poverty, and the child welfare system. Working with a range of diverse clients, indiscriminate of: age, gender, sexual orientation, abilities, socio-economic status, religious preference, etc.
First Aid, ASIST, Non-violent Crisis Intervention, Food Safe would be considered an asset. Valid / Insurable Saskatchewan Driver’s License, insurable to drive clients in JHSS-owned vehicles. Cleared Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check, completed three (3) months prior to start date.
Computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) Requires flexibility and should be able to work varying shifts
