Position Summary

We are seeking a Relief Part Time Electrophysiology Technologist at Kelowna General Hospital in Kelowna, BC. Days of work: Rotating, Days Shift times: 07:00 to 15:00, 07:00 to 16:00, 08:00 to 17:00, 09:00 to 18:00, 10:00 to 18:00 This is a relief position until May 03, 2027 or the return of incumbent.

The Electrophysiology Technologist practices in accordance with the established standards of professional practice to assist the Cardiac Electrophysiologist in the performance of electrophysiology lab procedures including electrophysiology studies and ablation; sets up and operates specialized equipment for the physiological data recording system and related computers, programmable stimulators, mapping system, and various generators for ablation procedures. The Electrophysiology Technologist assists with sterile table preparation, and patient care at the table pre/post procedure, as requested by the physician and/or nursing staff. Operates and troubleshoots data recording systems, maintains database and generates statistics and workload reports. Typical duties and responsibilities: 1. Under the supervision of the Electrophysiologist, provides electrophysiology services such as controlling the electrical stimulation of the patient by performing diagnostic tests such as antegrade and retrograde AV nodal refractory period testing, arterial and ventricular decrement pacing, sinus node recovery time, and tachycardia inducement testing. Performs emergency pacing maneuvers such as pacing and burst pacing the patient’s heart. 2. Monitors rhythm and intra-cardiac electrograms throughout the electrophysiology study, by methods such as identifying and analyzing electrical signals from the heart, documenting and measuring intra-cardiac electrograms of specific cardiac intervals and conduction properties to evaluate the patient’s radiofrequency ablation therapy. 3. Recognizes normal and abnormal 12-lead electrocardiograms and interprets recordings as they relate to the heart. 4. Performs other related duties as assigned. Where are we located? Qualfications Graduation from BCIT advanced certificate in Electrophysiology Technology or equivalent, plus two (2) years’ recent, related experience, including one year’s experience with programmed stimulator, geometric cardiac mapping systems, and cardiac recording systems or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Eligible for certification with Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as a Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) and/or Certification with the International Board of Heart Rhythm Exam (IBHRE) as a Certified Electrophysiology Specialist (CEPS).

Requirements

Graduation from a BCIT advanced certificate program in Electrophysiology Technology or an equivalent qualification.. Two years of recent, related experience, including one year working with programmable stimulators, geometric cardiac mapping systems, and cardiac recording systems, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.. Eligibility for RCES certification through Cardiovascular Credentialing International and/or CEPS certification through the International Board of Heart Rhythm Exam.
