About the role

Conduct general building maintenance and repair.

Set up, take down, and store furniture.

Perform seasonal grounds maintenance (grass cutting and gardening in summer; snow removal in winter) as assigned.

Collect and dispose of garbage as assigned.

Maintain health care equipment including lifts.

Conduct fire drills and safety inspections and attend safety meetings.

Maintain inventory of supplies and storage of materials and complete requisitions as required.

Ensure maintenance needs are completed and maintenance log books are up-to-date and accurate.

Attend in-service education sessions, staff meetings, committee meetings, and workshops as directed by the Supervisor.

Follow resident safety principles and safe work practices; immediately communicate any activity or action that may constitute a risk to resident safety.

Act as a member of the inter-disciplinary team within the Home.

Effectively utilize all electronic systems provided.

Participate in committees as required.

Perform other duties as assigned, including redeployment in emergency situations.

Comply with relevant legislations/regulations and County policies and procedures, including Occupational Health & Safety Act and Long Term Care Homes Act

Job Description

Position Summary

The Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance duties within established procedures, in accordance with the policies of the Home, County and applicable legislations/regulations. As a valued member of Long Term Care and Seniors Services, the Maintenance Worker demonstrates a commitment to resident safety by providing quality services in accordance with the organization’s mission and vision. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not listed in order of priority) 1. Service and repair electrical and plumbing equipment. 2. Monitor and assist with H.V.A.C. systems as required. 3. Requirements

Grade 12 diploma (educational equivalency may be considered).

General knowledge of building maintenance and construction, plumbing and heating, electrical, painting, and small engine/equipment repair; post-secondary training in a related trade (electrical, plumbing, carpentry) is an asset.

Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a similar or related position.

Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening less than six (6) months old at time of hire.

TB testing results submitted as required by Public Health.

Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, turning, stooping, bending, and lifting; and work on ladders or in confined spaces.

Ability to troubleshoot equipment failures and follow safe work practices.

Maintain confidentiality in accordance with MFIPPA and PHIPA
