About the role

Provide personal nursing care to clients in accordance with policies, physician’s orders, and nursing standards.

Build and maintain relationships with clients, families, visitors, and other departments.

Use electronic systems provided and complete required documentation (resident charts and incident/accident reports).

Follow resident safety principles and safe work practices; communicate any actions that may constitute a risk to resident safety.

Organize and delegate duties to HSWs.

Participate in committees as required.

Assess residents in other housing settings (e.g., Retirement Home) for care or medication management.

Set up care plans for residents in their care area and in other housing within Georgian Village purchasing services.

Provide emergency response in their care area and to areas of Georgian Village except Georgian Manor, including emergency pendant setup, testing, and troubleshooting.

Perform other duties as assigned, including redeployment in emergency situations.

Comply with Occupational Health & Safety Act and Retirement Homes Regulatory Act requirements and County of Simcoe Health & Safety policies and legislation.

Maintain confidentiality in accordance with applicable privacy legislation

Job Description

Position Summary

The Registered Practical Nurse is responsible for providing nursing care to clients, in accordance with the policies of the organization and applicable legislation. The Community RPN’s work is conducted in a manner that is consistent with the Mission, Vision and Values of the County of Simcoe’s Community Programs. As a valued member of Long Term Care and Seniors Services, the Registered Practical Nurse demonstrates a commitment to client safety by providing quality services in accordance with the organization’s mission and vision. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not listed in order of priority) 1. Provide personal nursing care to clients in accordance with administrative policies, physician’s orders, established standards and recognized nursing principles as directed. 2. In conjunction with the Nursing team, identify needs of clients and develop and maintain appropriate care plans. 3. Assess client’s condition through recognizing and interpreting symptoms and signs and reporting significant changes in physical and emotional condition. 4. Observe, report and record symptoms and guide, administer, supervise medications delivery and treatment as prescribed. Responsible for HSWs completing medication pass. 5. Responsible for safekeeping of drugs and proper care of equipment. 6. Assist in maintaining a physical and psycho social environment to meet the needs of clients. 7. Develop and maintain good relationships with clients, families, visitors and other departments. 8. Effectively utilizes all electronic systems provided. 9. Ensure all documentation including resident charts and incident/accident reports are completed as required. 10. Participates in and demonstrates an understanding of resident safety principles and practices into all day to day activities. Follows all safe work practices and procedures and immediately communicates any activity or action which may constitute a risk to resident safety. 11. Organize and delegate duties to HSW’s. 12. Participate in committees as required. 13. Assess residents in other housing outside of their care area i.e. Retirement Home, to provide care or medication management. 14. Responsible for setting up care plans for residents in their care area i.e. Retirement Home, as well as residents in other housing in Georgian Village purchasing services. 15. Responsible for emergency response in their care area i.e. Retirement Home, and to all areas of Georgian Village except for Georgian Manor. 16. Emergency pendant set up, testing and trouble shooting. 17. Perform other duties as assigned, including redeployment in emergency situations. 18. Works in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Retirement Homes Regulatory Act, and their regulations in performing duties in a safe manner, and follows all County of Simcoe Health & Safety policies, procedures and legislation. 19. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Personal Health Information Protection Act. Requirements

Current registration as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario with a Drug Certificate.

Minimum two (2) years’ experience as an RPN.

Good interpersonal and communication skills.

Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening less than six (6) months old at time of hire.

Proof of annual CPR recertification.

Documented results of TB testing as required by Public Health.

Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset (Georgian Village only).

Some community RPN experience is an asset.

Preferred: experience in geriatrics or long-term care nursing facility, or completion of a course in gerontology
