Position overview

The Support Worker – Overnight Awake provides person-centered overnight support to adults receiving Supported Living Services. This role ensures the safety, wellbeing, and dignity of individuals throughout the night by remaining awake for the duration of the shift and responding to emotional, personal, and care needs as required. The position works collaboratively with the support team and upholds the mission, vision, and values of Inclusion Langley Society.

The successful candidate will provide support to adults living in the home. This role requires experience supporting individuals with diverse needs, the ability to respond effectively to challenging situations, and the capacity to build and maintain positive, respectful, and trusting relationships.

The focus of this role is to support overall personal growth, including health, recreation, daily routines, and the expansion of personal and community networks, while ensuring the home environment is maintained in accordance with the philosophy and standards of the Society.

Key Responsibilities

• Remain awake throughout overnight shifts to ensure safety and timely response
• Support implementation of person-centered plans, behavioural support plans, and health care plans
• Provide emotional and personal care support when individuals awaken
• Apply positive behavioural support strategies and respond appropriately to challenging situations
• Administer medications according to established standards and maintain accurate records
• Complete hourly Overnight Awake Notes and required documentation in ShareVision
• Conduct bed checks and safety inspections per policy
• Respond to emergencies and crises, notifying the Supervisor/designate and completing incident reports
• Perform light housekeeping, cleaning tasks, and minor maintenance as required
• Support meal preparation, food prep, and cooking as assigned
• Maintain confidentiality and safeguard all entrusted information
• Work collaboratively as a positive team member while demonstrating the ability to work independently

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• A related certificate or diploma in Community Support Work, Disability Studies, Health Care Assistant, Social Services, or a related field is considered an asset.
• Experience with person-centered planning, positive behavioural supports, and alternative communication systems is an asset.
• Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to be flexible, adapt to changes, and respond positively to evolving needs.
• Minimum one year of direct support experience with individuals with developmental disabilities.
• Strong understanding of community inclusion, person‑centered practices, and positive behaviour support strategies (training in behavioural intervention is an asset).
• Experience supporting individuals in community‑based settings is an asset.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to remain professional, compassionate, and calm in high‑stress situations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Ability to follow prescribed lifting, transferring, and behaviour support techniques.

Additional position information

Requirements

• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle (Class 4 an asset)
• Valid Intermediate First Aid, Mandt, and TB Health Certificate
• This role requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC), and a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice
