Implement recreation and leisure activities based on client preferences, strengths, abilities, and interests.
Gather resident feedback and communicate required information to the Manager/Supervisor.
Chart on all clients attending the program and evaluate programs.
Ensure recreation areas are clean, safe, and properly maintained in keeping with health, fire, and safety codes; clean recreation equipment after each use.
Monitor equipment for wear and inform the Therapist when replacement is required; create shopping lists for supplies.
Create program plans for new programs implemented in the facility and complete monthly activity calendars as part of the recreation team.
Get to know clients by conducting life histories, reviewing care plans and recreation assessments, and visiting with clients.
Talk with the Recreation Therapist, recreation team members, and nursing staff; coordinate with house staff and RC as applicable.
Create community linking opportunities with organizations/services that match clients' interests and abilities; assist as needed.
Complete documentation accurately and professionally.
Report monthly on residents' participation and response to recreation activities (progress notes, charting, and daily stats via tracking methods).
Attend and participate in resident meetings, team meetings, in-service training, and staff development sessions as required.
Promote the importance of Therapeutic Recreation and collaborate with other professionals within the site.
Be available as a resource for program ideas when recreation is not offered (not on the floor or in the Group Home).
Support residents to become involved in the community where appropriate under direction of the Manager and Recreational Therapist; network with agencies and community programs as required.
Seek out and pursue educational opportunities.
Ensure residents' confidentiality, dignity, and autonomy are respected and upheld.
Implement programs with clients on a 1-on-1 and group basis
Diploma or certificate in recreation/leisure studies or a related health field (desirable). First Aid & CPR Level C certification. Satisfactory criminal record check. At least 3 years' experience working within the Human Service Field. Understanding and experience working with Mental Health (asset)
