Support inpatient mental health and substance use care, including wellness teaching strategies (nutrition, exercise, medications, therapy, relapse prevention)

Position Summary

Interior Health is seeking an experienced and dynamic Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) to join our Mental Health & Substance Use (MHSU) Inpatient Psychiatric Unit team at Royal Inland Hospital, Kamloops, BC. The Inpatient Mental Health and Substance Use program assists in-patients with acute mental health challenges. We are an interdisciplinary team that places a high emphasis on wellness by teaching patients about nutrition, exercise, medications, therapy, relapse prevention and other wellness strategies. We work together with the Community Mental Health and Substance Use programs to ease transition back to the community. We are looking for a self-directed, motivated, reliable and flexible mental health-trained nurse (RN/RPN) who enjoys working in a team environment and has a strong desire to learn. If you are experienced in Mental Health or Substance Use, we want to hear from you! This is a Relief Full Time (1.00) opportunity until September 24, 2027, or the return of the incumbent. Shifts of work will be scheduled days and nights rotating from 07:30 to 19:30, 19:30 to 07:30 hours. About this Location GT6 at RIH is an acute psychiatric unit that provides acute psychiatric care to individuals across the full spectrum of care; early psychosis, general psychiatric disorders, addictions and geriatric. The unit has a multidisciplinary structured program consisting of individual psychotherapy, ECT, psychopharmacology, psycho-educational programs, group therapy, occupational therapy programs, recreational activities, family assessments and therapy, and behaviour therapy. The programs are tailored to meet teach patient’s individual needs. Length of stay varies from 1-3 weeks. The staff at GT6 are enthusiastic and strive to provide excellence in care.
