  • Perform nursing procedures including monitoring, preparing patients for diagnostics and surgery, catheter/ostomy care, and wound care.
  • Support activities of daily living.
  • Administer oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and PRN medications.
  • Insert or maintain peripheral IV infusions when ordered.
  • Communicate changes in condition to physicians/NPs/managers.
  • Document care according to policy.
  • Perform clerical tasks such as scheduling, ordering supplies, initiating diagnostic requisitions, and completing admissions/discharges/transfers.
  • Support orientation for new staff and students.
  • Participate in quality improvement and educational activities.
  • Maintain a safe environment by adhering to safety and infection control standards and reporting hazards or malfunctioning equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Position Summary

Kamloops Northshore UPCC has an exciting opportunity for a part-time Licensed Practical Nurse to join as an Orthopaedic Technician. We are looking for a confident, self‑directed professional who thrives in an autonomous role and is comfortable working independently while delivering high‑quality patient‑centered care. This day shift position operates rotating days, with shifts scheduled from 07:00 to 19:00.

This position operates in accordance with the competency guidelines and full scope of practice within the Standards of Practice as outlined by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), and according to organizational policies, procedures, standards and unit specific protocols. Under the direction and supervision of a physician/nurse practitioner (NP) this position also provides orthopaedic care by performing duties such as assessing and evaluating patient condition; reviewing x-rays to confirm plan of care; applying casts and splints; removing externally exposed pins, wires, staples and sutures; setting up traction equipment and performs related orthopaedic duties. What will you work on? The Licensed Practical Nurse will assess and monitor the strengths and limitations of patients, residents, and clients across physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual domains while establishing therapeutic relationships that support autonomy in care planning. The LPN will provide orthopaedic care by assessing conditions, reviewing xrays, communicating changes to physicians/NPs, implementing orders, assisting with cast application following reductions, applying and removing splints and casts, performing minor supervised cast modifications, removing exposed pins, staples, sutures, and wires, setting up and adjusting traction, supporting patients with mobility aids, and educating patients and families on cast and skin care. Within the LPN scope, the role includes assisting physicians/NPs with minor surgical and diagnostic procedures such as colposcopies, blepharoplasties, and lesion removals. The LPN will contribute to individualized care plans, participate in multidisciplinary meetings, and advocate for patient and family needs.
