Reporting to the Program Manager of the Central Referral Office, and under the general supervision of the Central Referral Team Coordinator, the Referral Clerk is responsible for the processing of referrals received at CancerCare Manitoba.
The Referral Clerk compiles demographic and medical information necessary for electronic chart creation and referral triage, assigning, and appointment scheduling for patients requiring outpatient consultation at CancerCare Manitoba and/or inpatient consultation. In carrying out their duties, the Referral Clerk will communicate and collaborate with the Navigation Services team, Referral Office team, multidisciplinary care team, referring community and patients.
Successful completion of a recognized Health Unit Clerk course or equivalent. Minimum two (2) years’ experience preparing charts, scheduling appointments, and communicating with patient and family members in an ambulatory multi-disciplinary setting Basic computer skills including keyboarding, data entry, email, and internet use Experience utilizing an electronic health record Strong understanding of patient-centered care Satisfactory employment record Legally able to work in Canada
Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and problem-solving skills. Ability to work both independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team. Ability to adapt to stressful work situations.
Experience in Oncology Familiarity with CancerCare Manitoba referral process, triage concepts and Disease Site Groups
Asset: Ability to speak French
Proof of successful completion of English 40S or other proof of English language competency may be required during the selection process
