The Occupational Therapist provides assessment and treatment for acute care emergency and inpatients at Toronto Western Hospital using evidence-based, patient-centered practices. The role collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to support care across multiple clinical areas, contributes to the development and implementation of best practice models, and participates in quality initiatives and Allied Health meetings. The position also supports clinical education for occupational therapy students and provides cross-coverage for various inpatient units as required.
Provides assessment and treatment of acute care emergency and in-patients at the Toronto Western Hospital Provides evidence-based and patient centered practice to patients seen Supports the development and implementation of best practice models of occupational therapy in the acute care setting at TWH Works with multidisciplinary teams Participates in the clinical education of occupational therapy students Participate in Allied Health meetings and quality initiatives In cooperation with other members of the occupational therapy in-patient team, provides assessment and treatment for patients across the hospital as required, areas of coverage may include: Emergency Department, Neurovascular, Neurology, Neurosurgery, General Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Orthopedics, General Surgery, Geriatrics, and ICU
Masters of Science degree in Occupational Therapy, or equivalent Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO) Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists’ membership, preferred Previous experience in an acute care Hospital environment, preferred Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) certification, preferred Excellent interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills Must be physically capable of performing the daily activities associated with patient care and occupational therapy treatment Experience in assessment and treatment of general internal medicine patients, Ortho/Msk patients, and patients with Neurological deficits Demonstrated appropriate and effective written, oral, and nonverbal communication skills Computer literacy
