Requirements summary
Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
Registered designation of a professional association plus considerable experience in children, youth and family clinical counselling (or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience).
Thorough knowledge of principles, professional standards of practice, and techniques for clinical counselling.
Considerable knowledge of the BCACC Code of Ethics.
Sound knowledge of regional resources available for at-risk children and youth.

This is professional social services counselling work aimed at preventing and reducing negative contact with the police and criminal behaviour by children and youth throughout the City.
The Youth and Family Counsellor provides direct and confidential prevention and intervention services through clinical counselling to children, youth and their families through a variety of assessments and therapeutic approaches.
The work involves considerable independence of judgment and action and requires the ability to function effectively under discordant conditions with minimal supervision.
Work performance is reviewed by a supervisor on the basis of accepted professional standards of practice.
Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work or related field supplemented with a registered designation of a professional association plus considerable experience in children, youth and family clinical counselling, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
