Job description

Description JOB SUMMARY

Within the context of a patient/client and family-centered framework and continuum-based care model and in accordance with established standards of professional practice and the vision, values and policies of the organization, the Occupational Therapist plans, delivers, evaluates and provides care coordination to address the needs of the clients and families experiencing functional impairment and acute/chronic disease within community, ambulatory and/or institutional settings.Collaborates with family members or significant others, interdisciplinary team members, educational resources and other healthcare professionals and/or providers to address the client’s functional/physical/occupational needs and social/cognitive/perceptual/environmental needs, to maximize capabilities, community participation and recovery from or adaptation to illness/impairment to achieve excellence in health services and education. Contributes to the organization and delivery of occupational services by participating in program quality assurance initiatives, meetings, research and education.This work is framed within VCH’s commitment to our pillars of Indigenous Cultural Safety, Anti-Racism, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and Planetary Health.

Qualifications

Education & Experience Current full registration as an Occupational Therapist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT). Valid BC Driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesBasic knowledge of evidence-based clinical practice related to designated program/area.Basic knowledge of occupational therapy standardized tests and measures.Broad knowledge of occupational therapy theory and practice within a client and family centred model of care.Basic knowledge of research process and methodology.Broad knowledge of other healthcare disciplines and their role in client care. Demonstrated ability to function as an effective team member.Demonstrated ability to teach and empower clients to assume control over their health. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing) with co-workers and clients both one-on-one and in groups.Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others. Demonstrated ability to provide effective consultation.Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others in a complex health care environment.Demonstrated ability to recognize when referral to another health care professional is required.General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety. Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.Skill in the use of equipment, and in the techniques appropriate to occupational therapy treatment. Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications.Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
