Provide psychiatric assessment and therapeutic care to clients with mental health needs under the direction of a Charge Nurse. Responsibilities include implementing care plans, conducting safety rounds, and assisting with admissions and personal care.
Requires a degree in Behavioural Science and one year of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education and training. Must be able to perform CPR and possess strong communication and organizational skills.
Within the context of a client and family centered care model and in accordance with established vision and values of the organization, works under the direction of the Charge Nurse, to provide specific aspects of psychiatric assessment and therapeutic care to clients with mental health needs, and establishes client/family needs above all other concerns. Contributes to the development, implementation and revision of client care plans; participates in ward rounds/meetings as required; conducts observation rounds to ensure the safety of clients and staff; records and communicates client behaviours; identifies the need for intervention; administers cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to established protocols. Participates in in-service education; responds to general inquiries; transports and accompanies clients who are considered unsafe to be alone; assists with admissions; provides personal care to clients when necessary under the direction of nursing staff.QUALIFICATIONS:Education & Experience Graduation from a recognized degree program in Behavioural Science plus one year’s recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Knowledge & AbilitiesAbility to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.Ability to deal with others effectively.Ability to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.Ability to organize work.Ability to operate related equipment.The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
