  • minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs) Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is proud to be part of the provincial implementation of minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs), an initiative aimed at enhancing nursing practice and strengthening quality of care across the health system. mNPRs set the minimum number of nurses providing care to patients on a given unit.
  • In British Columbia, mNPRs are developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the BC Nurses’ Union (BCNU) and health organizations.

  • Description JOB SUMMARY:Within the context of a client and family centred care model, and in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and Code of Ethics for registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses, and within the established vision and values of the organization, provides mental health and addictions care to clients within the designated Program.
  • Works as part of a multi-disciplinary team in providing assessments, screening, triage, treatment and/or case management for individuals within the designated client population (i.e. depending upon program/department, adults or youth/young adult) experiencing urgent and emergent mental health and substance abuse problems.
  • Works in partnership with clients, families and relevant clinical care partners to ensure service provided is integrated across the continuum of care.
  • Provides emergency mobile crisis response as required; facilitates immediate hospital or detox facility admission if deemed necessary; as applicable, provides crisis intervention counseling, treatment planning, intensive case management and referral coordination; initiates and participates in case conferences and case management meetings; prepares and maintains client records; and provides consultative and direct services/care to clients, families, community health professionals/agencies, law enforcement, and/or schools, physicians and Emergency Room staff.
  • Participates in team meetings, continuing education, conferences, and/or corporate initiatives and engages in on-going team planning, development, evaluation and quality improvement activities.QUALIFICATIONS:Education & Experience Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).Three (3) years’ recent related experience providing treatment services to individuals within the designated client population with mental health and substance use issues or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience.
