Crisis Housing Worker – Short Stay Crisis Beds Program (Part-time Permanent)

The Role and Opportunity
The Canadian Mental Health Association is looking for a Crisis Housing Worker (formerly Residential Support Worker) for the Short Stay Crisis Beds program. The Short Stay Crisis Beds program provides 24-hour on-site residential support and short-term case management services to individuals living with mental illness who have been involved with the criminal justice system.
$30.19 - $33.08 + 4% in lieu of vacation
Hours: 8 hours per week
Work Location: 940 Wilson Ave
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Crisis Housing Worker (CHW) works closely with the team in supporting clients and provide crisis intervention. The CHW will work out of the 940 Wilson Site and be required to work 8am – 4pm on Sunday.
The CHW will be required to provide on-site direct service provision and support clients based on their goals. They will orient clients to the programs and services and provide crisis prevention & interventions as needed. The purpose of the CHW will be to perform residential duties and maintain a safe, clean and secure environment.
The CHW will also be required to maintain trusting, respectful and collaborative working relationships with clients and colleagues; service providers and other community supports.
CMHA Toronto’s ideal candidate will have a minimum college diploma in in Social Work/Social Sciences. Experience working with people living with serious mental illness who have been homeless and living in Toronto’s shelter system is essential. The candidate will also bring a minimum of two (2) years of experience in community mental health. The candidate will have a demonstrated knowledge of Concurrent Disorders and the Criminal Justice System as it relates to mental health and skills in Mental Health Assessment and Crisis Intervention.
The candidate will also have strong written and oral communication skills and understanding of recovery principles as they relate to individuals with mental illness. The candidate will bring experience working with diverse communities and the ability to demonstrate a non-homophobic, anti-oppression and anti-racism approach.
