The RPN/LPN is responsible for managing the quality of nursing practice and providing care according to established standards and physician orders. Key duties include assessing patients, implementing care plans, and monitoring health changes in residents.
Candidates must hold a current certificate of competence and be registered or eligible for registration with the provincial governing body. Experience with cognitively impaired seniors and knowledge of infection control practices are preferred.
The RPN/LPN will enhance the effective management and quality of nursing practice daily in keeping with the standards and expectations set out by governing bodies and internal policies and standards of care. Please refer to the collective agreement Union Name: CUPE Union Local: 3128 Union Classification (Title): RPN or LPN as applicable Salary: As per CBA pay grid Nursing Schedule: As per collective agreement General Responsibilities 1) Ensure care is provided with established nursing standards and principles, physicians’ orders and administrative policies, as well as, observe, report and record vital signs, symptoms and conditions of residents / patients. Assure observance of required techniques in nursing care 2) Assist in assessing patients/residents and develop, implement, review and evaluate care plans. Monitor health, notes changes in condition and assess need for referral to doctors; processes and implement physicians’ orders Qualifications 1) Appropriate current certificate of competence from the Approved Institutions for the province 2) Registration or eligible for registration with the Approved Institutions for the province 3) Previous managerial experience in long-term care or community homecare preferred 4) Experience dealing with the cognitively impaired 5) Comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices, as well as Knowledge in Infection Control Practices 6) Demonstrated commitment to working with seniors 7) Ability to present information clearly and effectively both verbally whether in person or over the phone, and in writing; an active listener who projects a friendly demeanour 8) Ability to collect and use information to thoroughly think through problems and situations; puts information from various sources together to see the ‘big picture’ and generate creative solutions 9) Organizational, planning, time management and multi-tasking skills Time Type: Full time At Extendicare, we’ve spent more than 50 years dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for residents in our long-term care homes across Canada.
