This role involves assisting clinicians by providing direct patient care, managing daily schedules, obtaining vital signs, and accurately inputting clinical data into the electronic health record. Responsibilities also include preparing exam rooms, maintaining supplies, administering delegated injections, and coordinating care when clinicians are unavailable.
Requirements summary
Candidates must be licensed as either an LPN in Massachusetts (graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program) or an RN in Massachusetts (graduate of an accredited school of nursing), and possess Basic Life Support Certification. A minimum of two years of clinical experience is preferred for both roles, along with proficiency in office technology and Electronic Medical/Health Records.
Under the direct supervision of the clinician, department supervisor or designee, assists in providing clinical care to office patients
Manages clinicians’ daily schedule and patient flow to expedite care and maximize clinical time
Greets and escorts patients to exam rooms
Obtains relevant information and takes vital signs as indicated (i.e. height, weight, blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation).
Inputs pertinent clinical information into the electronic health record timely and with accuracy and performs a complete medication reconciliation
Assists clinicians with clinical procedures and/or additional tests specific to the department. May advise patient of preparation required for exam or additional testing and keeps patients informed of visit status, unforeseen delays and other relevant information pertaining to the patient’s visit
Prepare and maintain exam rooms for patient arrivals. Clean and/or maintain inventory of supplies (medical included) and equipment throughout the practice. Notifies supervisor to order clinical supplies, clinical equipment and pharmaceuticals as appropriate
Under the supervision of a physician, administers routine injections when delegated, and documents in real time and with accuracy
Ensures telephone calls are answered timely and clinicians receive necessary information
Coordinates care when clinicians are not immediately available, ensuring that telephone calls are triaged appropriately per established protocols
Assists in resolving patient concerns by acting as an advocate, as appropriate
Participates in practice and department meetings, trainings, etc. to promote continuous improvement and quality patient care
Takes initiative to learn, understand, and stay current with community resources and the greater healthcare system while continuously participating in self-assessment of skills
Maintains patient rights and abides by all confidentiality obligations pursuant to CCHC and HIPAA
Provides clerical/office support as necessary (i.e. scheduling appointments, greeting and registering patients, scanning incoming medical records and paperwork, preparing medical records, answering phone calls and taking messages, faxing, etc.)
Ability to float to other MACC practices when required
Performs other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested
Assists with the assessment of patient needs and coordinates care under the direction of the clinician
Verifies and implements clinician’s orders for testing and/or procedures (EKG’s, dressing changes, spirometry, Holter monitors, etc.)
Provides effective and evidence-based patient and family teaching, using health promotion and health teaching methods in collaboration with the patient’s values, beliefs, health practices, developmental level, learning needs, readiness and ability to learn, language preference, spirituality, culture and socioeconomic status
Triages walk-in patients per established protocols
Maintains communication and collaboration with interprofessional team and others to facilitate safe transitions and continuity of care delivery
