Responsibilities
Observe, promote, and respect the Residents’ Bill of Rights, ensuring residents’ dignity, privacy, and independence at all times.
Provide supervision and assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) including feeding, grooming, dressing, bathing, toileting, bedtime routines, and maintaining personal hygiene.
Maintain residents’ oral, dental, skin, nail, and foot care to promote comfort, mobility, and overall health.
Assist residents with mobility aids, prosthetics, adaptive equipment, and feeding aids as required.
Support residents with meal preparation, feeding assistance, and texture-modified diets when necessary.
Monitor residents’ elimination patterns, health status, and daily routines, providing appropriate assistance as needed.
Observe residents for changes in emotional, social, behavioral, and physical conditions, and report any significant changes to registered staff.
Interact respectfully with resident’s one-on-one, including those with language barriers, sensory impairments, or communication challenges, ensuring their concerns are heard and validated.
Provide cognitive, social, emotional, and spiritual support, assisting residents in maintaining meaningful daily routines and relationships.
Assist in organizing and facilitating recreational and leisure activities that encourage community participation, inclusion, and social engagement.
Ensure the health, safety, welfare, and well-being of residents, identifying risks and implementing appropriate safety measures or emergency responses when required.
Follow infection prevention and control procedures, including universal precautions and isolation techniques according to established policies.
Maintain a safe and clean-living environment, performing general household duties such as cleaning, laundry, grocery or supply shopping, and meal preparation as required.
Collect, monitor, and document resident information and daily care activities, including incident reports, restraint monitoring, medication administration records, and other required documentation.
Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety regulations, contributing to a safe working environment for residents and staff.
Complete required attendance records and daily/overnight inspection sheets.
Perform any other duties assigned by supervisors in support of resident care and facility operations.
Job Qualifications: Work Experience Minimum one (1) year of relevant experience working as a Personal Support Worker, preferably in long-term care facilities, healthcare community centers, or with individual clients.
Certification Secondary School Diploma and a Personal Support Worker (PSW) Certificate from a program that meets the requirements set by the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities, issued by an Ontario postsecondary institution or district school board; OR enrollment in a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) program with demonstrated skills and knowledge to perform PSW duties.
Valid Vulnerable Sector Check < 6 months Standard First Aid CPR (Class C) certificate Covid-19 Vaccination proof (Both Doses) Language Skills Proficiency in spoken and written Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese) and English Ability to read medical prescriptions and complete incident report form Transferable skills Ability to work rotating shifts (Day, Evening, Night) including alternate weekends.
