About the role

As a PBSH Caseworker, you will work in a team-based model to provide individualized care and support clients in maintaining housing stability. You will promote harm reduction and housing-first philosophies while managing crises and advocating for vulnerable populations.

Job Type: Permanent Full-Time (3 days on, 3 days off; 7pm–7am)

Pay

$24.95 per hour, plus $2.00 premium during overnight hours

About the Role

Alpha House operates multiple Place-Based Supportive Housing (PBSH) programs across Calgary, focused on providing care to individuals with complex needs and supporting long-term housing stability. These programs are built on our core values—meeting participants where they are at, eliminating barriers to entry, and offering a safe, compassionate space to address addiction and mental health challenges.

As a PBSH Caseworker, you’ll work in a team-based, case management model to help clients maintain housing and stability. You’ll provide individualized care while promoting harm reduction and housing-first philosophies in both word and action. This role requires strong crisis management, advocacy, and rapport-building skills, as well as a deep sense of empathy, respect, and ethical responsibility.

About You

  • We are looking for an experienced caseworker to join our PBSH program. The ideal candidate would have the following:
  • A minimum two-year diploma in Human Services (or related field) from a public post-secondary institution, or actively enrolled
  • Strong understanding of addiction, harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and the housing-first model
  • Frontline experience supporting vulnerable populations, particularly those facing homelessness, addictions, or mental health challenges
  • High degree of empathy, compassion, and non-judgmental support for clients
  • Crisis management, de-escalation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent communication, time management, and interpersonal skills
  • Technologically proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and adhere to privacy standards
  • A team player with the ability to work independently
  • Flexible, resourceful, and adaptable
  • Familiarity with the Protection of Persons in Care Act
  • Class 5 (Non GDL) driver license, clear five year driver's abstract, & three years of driving experience
  • Be able to physically assist clients from prone to sitting or standing, and vice versa
  • Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Search, valid within the last six months, that does not contain any results material to the position

Requirements

Candidates must have a minimum two-year diploma in Human Services or a related field and experience supporting vulnerable populations. You must also possess strong crisis management skills, a valid Class 5 driver's license, and the ability to perform physical tasks like assisting clients.
