*new graduate registered nurse (Rn) and registered psychiatric nurse (Rpn) (Worksite location is flexible)

The new graduate application is a two-step process. Step 1 is to submit your new graduate RN/RPN application by clicking “Apply” on this posting. Step 2 is to complete the new graduate pre-screen form. Once both steps are completed a Recruiter will review the information and reach out to schedule a pre-screen call for those that meet the new graduate criteria. In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, and under the general supervision of Manager or designate, the Registered Nurse practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as well as within a patient and family-centered care model. The Registered Nurse (RN) practices in a variety of clinical settings, and working collaboratively with the interprofessional care team, provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, providing and evaluating nursing care to patients in an acute medical unit. Qualfications NEW GRADUATE CRITERIA New graduates are:

Those who have graduated from an approved school of nursing program (i.e. not a bridging program).

Are applying as a new graduate within 18-months post-graduation.

Have not worked as a nurse since graduating or have less than 6-months of nursing experience.

Are eligible for registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Skills and Abilities:

Ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate/ prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.

Ability to communicate effectively with the patients, families/care givers, the public, medical staff and the members of the interprofessional team using verbal, written and computer communication means.

Ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem-solve effectively.

Ability to promote resident-focused care that demonstrates care for and with residents and significant others, sensitive to diverse cultures and preferences, resident advocacy and social justice concerns.

Ability to transmit information intended to instruct patients, families/care givers and others about topics essential to health care and well-being.

Ability to organize and prioritize work.

Promotes staff morale, cooperation, assertiveness and risk-taking, creative planning for change and innovations, implementation of NH policies or other protocols, and ongoing professional development of self.

Using factual information, prior learning and basic principles and procedures to support decisions and actions with relevant research-based evidence. Integrates best practice from nursing and health-related disciplines and the humanities, arts and sciences disciplines into professional practice.

Ability to operate related equipment including relevant computer applications.
