In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. Reports to the Nurse Manager, Department Head, or designate, the Registered Nurse - Pediatrics plans and provides direct nursing care to patients in the hospital in accordance with the unit/program philosophy, competency guidelines, policies, and the BCCNM Standards for Nursing Practice in British Columbia.
Registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing registered nurse.
Current CPR Basic Rescuer certification.
New nursing graduates must have completed a Collaborative Learning Unit or final preceptorship in Pediatric Inpatient.
Knowledge of the physiology and psychology of children from newborn to 16 years.
Up to two years of recent acute pediatric experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to organize workload and set priorities.
Ability to work effectively with patients, families, physicians, coworkers, and community representatives.
