ROLE

The registered technologist in mammography is responsible for effectively and efficiently performing a variety of procedures requiring independent judgment, excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, as well as initiative in the application of mammography.

  • Required education & certification(S)
  • Graduate of a recognized Radiography program required
  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario required
  • Current CPR certification required

Required skills & experience(S)

Able to competently perform a wide range of mammographic procedures including: screening (including OBSP) and assessment mammography, contrast injection, digital breast tomosynthesis, stereotactic biopsy, and pre-operative localization procedures

Maintaining an effective working relationship with patients, physicians, hospital staff and the public

Demonstrated commitment to his/her ongoing professional development and continuing education (i.e., awareness of one’s own personal/professional education needs, and self-initiation of actions to meet those needs)

Demonstrated ability to act quickly and effectively when dealing with emergencies with patients and staff

Able to exercise courtesy and understanding in dealing with patients, medical personnel, visitors, and staff members of other departments

Able to recognize and react appropriately, both mentally and physically, to emergent/critical situations, incidents and adverse reactions. This would encompass following Hospital/Departmental policies & procedures, maintaining a calm and professional composure and assuming a leadership role when required to support staff

Able to react to unpredictable situations with critically/acutely ill patients having physical limitations, to ensure patient safety

  • Desired skills, experience(S) & education
  • Registration with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists or Ontario Association of Medical Radiation Sciences preferred
  • Formal training in mammography and/or Certificate in Breast Imaging preferred, with willingness to acquire
  • Preference given to candidates with previous mammography experience in OBSP

Requirements

Candidates must be graduates of a recognized Radiography program and hold current registration with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario. Current CPR certification is also mandatory for this position.
