About the role

Provide quality pharmaceutical care by entering and verifying all aspects of prescriptions or orders.

Communicate with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure optimal pharmaceutical care.

Dispense prescriptions and verify accuracy and quality in accordance with professional standards.

Ensure professional duties comply with legislation.

Counsel patients on therapeutic use and related pharmaceutical care issues.

Provide clinical or pharmaceutical information to clients and other healthcare providers.

Provide day-to-day work direction to pharmacy assistants by verifying accuracy from data entry through dispensing.

Provide objectives, guidance, and instructions for operating computer programs.

Provide guidelines for shipment and packaging of medications.

Ensure proper storage and security of drugs and pharmacy files, including shelf-life and quality assurance checks.

Maintain security and confidentiality of pharmacy files and client information.

Perform other related duties as assigned

Job Summary

  • In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Provincial Health Services Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA, and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. The Staff Pharmacist provides quality pharmaceutical care to clients according to acceptable pharmacy practice, and provides day-to-day work direction to Pharmacy Assistant.
  • Duties/Accountabilities: 1.Provides quality pharmaceutical care by:
  • entering and verifying ALL aspects of a prescription or order
  • communicating with physicians and other health care providers to ensure optimal pharmaceutical care for the client
  • dispensing prescriptions and verify its accuracy and quality in accordance with professional standards
  • ensuring all professional duties are in compliance with legislation
  • counseling patients on the therapeutic use and other related pharmaceutical care issues
  • providing clinical or pharmaceutical information to clients or other health care providers 2.Provides day-to-day work direction to pharmacy assistants by:
  • verifying accuracy of work from data entry through to dispensing
  • providing objectives and guidance pertaining to acceptable pharmacy practices
  • providing instructions for operating computer programs
  • providing guidelines pertaining to the shipment and packaging of medications 3.Ensures proper storage and security of drugs and pharmacy files by:
  • checking shelf-life of medications
  • checking for quality assurance of products or supplies are acceptable to professional standards
  • maintains products are safely and effectively stored under the appropriate storage conditions.
  • maintaining security and confidentiality of pharmacy files and client information in keeping with established standards. 4.Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education, Training and Experience
  • Bachelor of Pharmacy from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Licensing by the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia (Regulatory Body) - Good Standing
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience as a pharmacist preferred. Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing with clients, colleagues and physicians.
  • Ability to provide work direction.
  • Ability to perform work with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with Microsoft applications would be a strong asset.</job_

Requirements

Bachelor of Pharmacy from a recognized post-secondary institution.

Licensing by the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia in good standing.

Minimum of one (1) year experience as a pharmacist preferred.

Ability to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and physicians (oral and written).

Ability to provide work direction.

Ability to perform work with high accuracy and attention to detail.

Ability to work with Microsoft applications (strong asset)
