About the role

Transcribe and process clinician orders by completing and forwarding requisitions for tests or services and scheduling in the electronic health record.

Organize diagnostic and therapeutic services by coordinating numerous interrelated patient appointments.

Gather patient information for medical appointments and prepare documents for the clinical team and patient.

Perform receptionist duties including greeting and registering patients, supporting way finding, answering the telephone/switchboard, and responding to triage inquiries.

Participate in onboarding and orientation of staff and support student clinical practicums as required.

Maintain a safe environment by adhering to safety policies, standards, and emergency procedures.

Participate as a collaborative member of the health care team.

Perform other related duties as assigned

Job Summary

  • In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Provincial Health Services Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA. As such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. Performs a variety of clerical duties related to the operation of the Program Area or Unit such as booking and coordinating appointments, diagnostic tests and procedures, processing clinician orders, preparing requisitions and reception/switchboard duties.
  • Duties/Accountabilities: 1. Transcribes and processes clinician orders by completing and forwarding requisitions for tests or services, using the electronic health record system to schedule; tests or services with the appropriate departments/processes; return appointments, appointments of various types and related data into the electronic health record, and communicates various information according to procedure. 2. Organizes diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients by co-ordinating numerous interrelated appointments. Prepares and communicates related instructions to patients in person, by telephone, by mail or virtual. 3. Gathers patient information for medical appointments to assist in facilitating an efficient patient flow. Requests, receives and transports patient information to designated clinical area. Prepares documents for clinical team and patient. 4. Performs a variety of receptionist duties such as greeting and registering patients and supporting way finding, answering the telephone/switchboard and responding in person by triage inquiries, relaying verbal and written messages. 5. Participates in the onboarding and orientation of staff through methods such as demonstrating work procedures and answering related queries. Supports student clinical practicums as required 6. Maintains a safe environment for patients, families and staff by adhering to safety policies and standards and emergency procedures. 7. Participates as a collaborative member of the health care team. 8. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education, Training and Experience Grade 12, medical terminology and graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk Program plus one (1) year’s recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Skills and Abilities

Grade 12.

Medical terminology.

Graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk Program.
