ABOUT US Kainaiwa Children’s Services Corporation is a growing, dynamic First Nations organization providing programs and services to Blood Tribe children and families in need of support and protection so that they can become positive, healthy contributing members of our community; While maintaining KCSC’s Vision, Mission Statements and incorporating Blood Tribe Traditions through “Kainayssini” the Declaration of the Elders of the Blood Indian Nation.

POSITION OVERVIEW Under the direction of the Program Supervisor of the Blood Tribe Safe Home and Assessment Centre; the Child Care Worker will work in a team environment and will provide a safe short-term nurturing environment for children in care.

Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment that supports the emotional well-being of children in care. Provide direct supervision of children and ensure their safety at all times. Develop, implement, and participate in structured and unstructured daily activities and programming. Liaise effectively with involved professionals and significant family members. Maintain the Safe Home environment, including cleaning, meal preparation, and laundry for clients. Complete accurate and timely documentation, including daily logs and intake reports. Adhere to organizational policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements. Maintain cooperative working relationships with team members. Manage crisis situations using effective problem-solving and de-escalation techniques.

Qualifications

Post-secondary degree or diploma in Child and Youth Care or a related field. Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle. Successful completion of CYIM/ISIS check and Criminal Record Check.

  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to develop, plan, and organize daily programming and activities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
  • Knowledge of Blackfoot language and culture is considered an asset.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage crisis situations using calm and effective de-escalation techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build positive relationships with children and families.
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining confidentiality and protecting sensitive information.
  • Ability to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
