Provide assessment, harm reduction strategies, intervention, treatment, outreach, and/or detoxification and/or recovery consultation and referral for clients with substance use problems and their caregivers/families.
Work under the direction of the Team Lead or designate within organizational framework and standards using a rehabilitation/recovery harm reduction focused model.
Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary engagement and treatment team.
Complete initial and ongoing client assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning).
Teach clients and others one-on-one and in groups.
Integrate best practice and current research evidence into professional practice decisions and actions.
Communicate effectively with clients, families, the public, medical staff, and interdisciplinary team members.
Apply conflict resolution skills.
Use critical thinking and systems approach to problem-solve and make decisions.
Promote client-focused care with sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences.
Advocate for clients and address social justice concerns.

Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited university.
Two (2) years recent related experience working with clients with mental health and/or substance use issues (or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience).
Current registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers.
Valid BC Driver's License.
Demonstrated ability to complete initial and ongoing client assessments and provide harm reduction focused interventions.
Ability to teach clients and others (one-on-one and in groups).
Demonstrated communication, conflict resolution, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
Demonstrated computer skills including Meditech and Windows-based programs and ability to perform data analysis/reporting.
Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
Travel may be required; transportation arrangements must meet Northern Health operational requirements
