About the role

The Navigator supports individuals in accessing and maintaining stable, affordable housing while addressing personal issues. They provide practical assistance and support to families to build resiliency and reconcile the impacts of colonialism.

Native Counselling Services of Alberta’s mission is to promote the resilience of the indigenous individual and family, through programs and services that are grounded in reclaiming our interconnectedness, reconciliation of relationships and self-determination.

Native Counselling Services of Alberta (NCSA) housing program is currently looking for a Navigator within our Indigenous Housing program. The individual plays a vital role in supporting individuals trying to access affordable housing. By providing practical assistance the intent is for individuals to find suitable housing, ensure that they address personal issues and maintain stable affordable housing.

Specific responsibilities will include the following

  • To provide individuals and their families supports to take responsibility for making appropriate decisions.
  • To assist individuals and their families to build resiliency to reconcilet he impact of colonialism and historic trauma.
  • To ensure program requirements are met in accordance with client needs and contractual agreements.

Our ideal candidate would have the following qualifications

  • In-depth experience and working knowledge of Indigenous communities, cultures, healing and language.
  • Demonstrated understanding of historic trauma and the impact of colonization on Indigenous people.
  • Previous experience working in human services and/or extensive working experience with multi-barrier individuals.
  • Understanding of the operation of service systems within the housing sector, Alberta Works and Income Supports, Justice and Community Services is an asset.
  • Proficient working experience with database and information technology.
  • Strong organizational, time management skills with the ability to work flexible hours on occasion, work as a team member, maintain high level of confidentiality, ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines, set professional deadlines.
  • Must be dependable with the appropriate dress code for the position.
  • Ability to seek out and build relationships with individuals, families, team members, landlords and met deadlines, set professional boundaries.
  • Must have a reliable vehicle, valid Alberta driver’s license with the required insurance to use your vehicle as part of your employment.
  • Must also provide a current criminal record check, child intervention check upon hire.

Starting salary- $50,000.00 annual
