POSITION SUMMARY The role of the respiratory therapist in the Ambulatory Care PSU involves responsibilities for assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and coordinating patient care for patient who are technology dependent and/or have sleep-disorder breathing and conducting pulmonary function testing. The respiratory therapist is a member of the multidisciplinary team and will enhance the role of Case Management with the complex respiratory patient population, as well as perform diagnostic evaluations in the pulmonary function laboratory. The successful candidate will: Provides diagnostic testing including pulmonary function, bronchial provocation and cardiopulmonary exercise testing Utilize clinical practice guidelines, clinical pathways, medical directives, hospital policies and procedures to promote and implement evidence based practice Collaborate with other team members with the planning and organization Ensure safe and effective application of precise respiratory technological equipment to meet determined patient care goals Administer medication via inhalation as per medical directives or physician order Provide patient and family support and education Participates in several interdisciplinary teams providing advice on respiratory management Contribute to the orientation and education of various members of the interdisciplinary team as appropriate Participate in quality assurance, research activities and workload measurement as appropriate Demonstrate a commitment to professional respiratory therapy practice QUALIFICATIONS Vulnerable Sector Check (Essential) Member of the College of Respiratory Therapy (General Certificate) (Essential) BCLS(Essential) Demonstrated strong interpersonal and collaborative practice skills (Essential) Demonstrated commitment to continuing education, including independent learning (Essential) Degree in Health Sciences or related field (Preferred) Member in good standing of the RTSO(Preferred) Member in good standing of the CRST(Preferred) PALS & and NRP certification (Preferred) Minimum 3 years pediatric respiratory care experience (Essential) Experience in pulmonary function testing (Essential) Experience working as a case manager with the complex respiratory pediatric patient population (Essential) Critical Care experience (Preferred) Bilingualism (English/French) (Essential)

Requirements

Candidates must be members of the College of Respiratory Therapy with BCLS certification and at least 3 years of pediatric respiratory care experience. Essential requirements include proficiency in pulmonary function testing, case management for complex pediatric patients, and bilingualism in English and French.
