Provide daily direct patient care for cardiology patients in the Cardiac Intervention Unit pre and post area.
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in compliance with the scope of practice.
Continuously modify the plan of care based on evaluation of outcomes.
Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop, review, modify, and update the patient’s plan of care.
Communicate changes in patient status to MRP and Resource/Charge Nurse Professional Care.

Utilize infection prevention and control best practices.
Identify and prioritize physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of patients.

Prepare and administer medications and provide treatments as prescribed, then evaluate and document outcomes.
Perform physical assessments and provide treatments according to professional standards and medication policies.
Initiate and maintain intravenous therapy.
Document care and assessments in the clinical record per RVH policies and College of Nurses standards.
Provide and receive report to/from oncoming staff.
Complete workload measurement.
Support patient flow by ensuring timely acceptance of patients (PULL methodology) and participating in efforts to reduce barriers to patient flow.
Participate in rounds and daily communication processes as required.
Participate in interprofessional team planning to meet Expected Date of Discharge (EDD).

Reporting to the Cardiac Intervention Unit & Cardiac Care Unit Manager, the Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who is responsible for the provision of optimal care for Cardiology patients undergoing various procedures within a cardiac intervention unit & pre/post procedure area. This current opportunity is to support in the pre/post procedure area.
Education
- Current registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Nurses
- Critical Care Certificate preferred or completion within two years of hire
- Coronary Care I & II required
- Current BCLS required
- Current ACLS required
- Must pass a screening arrhythmia quiz obtaining an 80% to move onto interview phase
- Experience:
- Must have a minimum of one (1) year of critical care experience or equivalent experience in ED/CCU or ICU is required
- Previous Cardiac Intervention Unit experience is required for vacancies in the Cath Lab
- Previous pre and post experience is required for vacancies in pre & post area
- Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump experience is preferred
- Strong background in cardiovascular physiology, electrocardiography and rhythm interpretation is required
- Experience with aortic hemodynamic monitoring is required
- Groin management experience is required
- Experience with pacemaker device analyzing/programming is required

Requirements
