89-26/27 Location: Kelowna, BC (Downtown Youth Centre) BGC Okanagan is hiring a Shelter Diversion Worker! This diversion worker role gives you the opportunity to make an immediate difference by helping youth in crisis identify safe, practical alternatives to shelter. Using your relationship-building, crisis intervention, and problem-solving skills, you'll work with youth to develop safety plans, connect them with community resources, and strengthen natural support networks. In this fast-paced, collaborative role, you'll help prevent homelessness, reduce harm, and create meaningful outcomes every shift. This is a temporary position until March 31, 2027.

Key

Duties and Responsibilities

Collaborates in case management through Youth Assessment and Prioritization tool assessment. Collaborates with counsellors, professionals, and natural supports regarding the development of appropriate personal service plans to achieve participant’s housing objectives. Provides housing focused life skills training such as meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care skills and personal finance and implements personal service plans. Identifies social, economic, recreational and educational services in the community that will meet clients’ needs. Transport and assist participants to appointments Establishes safety and prevents emergency situations through person-centered care, attending to client needs, collaboration with clients, and early intervention. Recognizes, analyzes and deals with potential emergency situations. Provides emotional support and feedback to participants and their families / natural supports Performs residence maintenance and housekeeping duties. Maintains reports such as statistics, logbooks, youth files, Case notes, and incident reports.

Qualifications

Certificate in a related human/social service field. One (1) year recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Class 5 driver licence and vehicle

This position is open to all applicants This position requires union membership Hours: 26 hours per week - Monday: 1pm-5pm, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday: 4pm-12am Rate of Pay: $25.95 per hour
