Provides clinical and technical support in pre-operative areas, operating rooms, and post-anesthesia care units. Assists the Anesthesiologist in patient management and ensures all necessary resources for anesthetic care are ready for use.
Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist with Anesthesia Assistant certification and current BLS-C and ACLS certifications. A minimum of two years of experience as a respiratory therapist is preferred.
9-Jul-26About the Opportunity Reporting to the Manager - Department of Anesthesia and under the direction of the Anesthesiologist, the Anesthesia Assistant provides clinical and technical support in the pre-operative areas, operating rooms, post anesthesia care units and in other specialty areas contained within QEII facilities where anaesthesia services may be required on a 24/7 basis. The Anesthesia Assistant participates in the clinical management of the patient as well as providing assistance to ensure all resources required for the administration of anesthetic care to the patient are immediately available and ready for use.About You We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist Current registration with the Nova Scotia College of Respiratory Therapists or eligible for registration Completion of an Anesthesia Assistant certification required CSRT membership with CCAA designation considered an asset Minimum of two years experience as a respiratory therapist preferred Previous experience in the operating room area an asset Degree preferred; previous anesthesia courses an asset Current BLS-C (HCP) and ACLS is required Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
The Anesthesia Assistant must be capable of repositioning anesthesia equipment (weights of up to 50 pounds) and supplies when required. Where there are no qualified candidates, consideration may be given to those who are currently enrolled in a recognized Anesthesia Assistant program and will be expected to successfully complete within 2 years.
