About the role

Lead and motivate the dining team to ensure the best dining experience for community members.

Collaborate with the Culinary Services Manager and Executive Chef and report/document key information points.

Monitor team members to ensure assigned duties are completed in a timely manner.

Participate in monthly team meetings, hiring and training for new team members, and peer evaluations.

Serve food and beverages and ensure correct presentation and fulfillment of special requests.

Greet community members and guests at the table and provide personal attention.

Respond to inquiries regarding menu and take menu, beverage, and bar orders; communicate orders to kitchen and/or bar.

Organize and prioritize service according to the appropriate service sequence.

Set and clear tables throughout the dining experience according to V!VA standards.

Handle concerns/complaints regarding food or service with empathy, resolve issues, and follow through.

Cooperate with other servers to meet and exceed service expectations.

Participate in in-service training and education programs as scheduled.

When needed, be part of the first response team for emergency fire calls and support internal/external catering

As a Culinary/Dining Room Supervisor at a V!VA Retirement Community, you will be accountable to your job duties as they pertain to your assigned shifts. You will collaborate and work as a team player with emphasis on great food service delivery, cleanliness within your department and excellence in hospitality! You will lead and motivate the team to ensure that the Community Members have had the best dining experience possible. You will be responsible to monitor that the Team Members are accomplishing their duties as assigned and in a timely manner. You will participate in monthly team meetings, hiring and training for new team members and peer evaluations. When needed, you will be part of the first response team for all emergency fire calls and support all caterings both internally and externally. You will report and document key information points as they pertain to your duties to the Culinary Services Manager & Executive Chef as required, to ensure a seamless communication and support system. Ensure the appropriate methods of maintaining confidentiality and privacy of information are carried out in your day to day tasks and communication. Working closely with the Culinary Services Manager to address, support and honor the needs of our current and prospective Community Members. Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Greet all Community Members and guests at table
  • Respond to inquiries regarding menu
  • Take menu, beverage and bar orders from Community Members and guests and communicate orders to kitchen and/or bar
  • Organize and prioritize service per appropriate service sequence
  • Check food orders prior to serving to ensure that they are correct, properly presented, and special requests have been met
  • Serve food, coffee, water and other beverages; refills beverages as needed
  • Set tables in accordance with V!VA standards
  • Clear tables throughout the dining experience using proper methods for removing dishes, glassware and silverware
  • Gives personal attention, take personal responsibility and uses teamwork when providing Community Member and guest service
  • Respond to concerns/complaints regarding food or service and correct errors or resolve complaints with a friendly, positive attitude
  • Listen, apologize with empathy, find solutions and follow through when resolving problem
  • Cooperate closely with other servers to meet and exceed service expectations
  • Participates in and attend in-service training and education programs as scheduled

Qualifications

  • Smart Serve Certified
  • Understands that regular attendance and punctuality is expected of all employees
  • Has a clean well kept appearance
  • Ability to communicate clearly with all team members including managers, peers and subordinates
  • Ability to manage their time effectively with little supervision
  • Has demonstrated living the V!VA values. This includes timely responses to managements requests, attendance at team meetings as well as Making Today Great meetings and actively uses Orange Dot Rewards to recognize fellow team members
  • Demonstrates knowledge and use of our Service Culture Standards
  • Must have completed orientation, Safety 24-7 online training and understands our Emergency Response procedures
  • Able to bend, stretch, sit and stand for long periods. Able to lift a maximum of 50 lbs
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
  • Available for call-ins
