Assists an interdisciplinary team in implementing nursing and personal care programs, including bathing, grooming, and feeding clients. Responsible for carrying out leisure activities, monitoring client progress, and performing basic nursing procedures like taking vital signs.
Requires Grade 12 education and graduation from a recognized Resident Care Attendant Program. Candidates must have at least 2 years of recent recreational or rehabilitative experience or an equivalent combination of training.
Within the context of a client/family centred care model and under general supervision of an interdisciplinary care team, this position assists Registered Nurses, Occupational Therapists and Physical Therapists and in carrying out individual or group leisure activities and established nursing/personal care programs. Duties include selecting and carrying out activities, assisting the client with practising daily living skills, accompanying clients on group outings, observing and reporting client progress, participating in unit discussions and inservices, and performing nursing procedures such as administering suppositories and enemas and taking and recording temperature, pulse and respiration. Assists clients with personal care such as bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting and feeding.QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION & EXPERIENCEGrade 12, graduation from a recognized Resident Care Attendant Program plus 2 years’ recent recreational/rehabilitative experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIESAbility to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.Ability to deal with others effectively.Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.Ability to organize work.Ability to operate related equipment.Ability to teach.The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
